PUBLIC ARTS CENTER IN MUNICH, GERMANY
Extract from the Jury report, published by the City of Munich:
"The 'Tonnenviertel' means an open creative center, which is characterized by both a 'large urban vitality' and a 'social orientation'. In addition, the wrap around the halls to leisure and meeting with high amenity value should be.
The elaborated concept tries to integrate the required aspects of competition, without at the same time limiting the aspect of openness and flexibility through too much commit. This should be the possibility to invent the place again and again.
Central projections of the concept are in addition to the range of working spaces and events through a variety of partners who contribute variety of topics. For larger formats such as dance, theater, performance, concerts, the 'Cathedral' provided in the Jutierhalle.
Artist-in-residence opportunities and integration in international exchange formats and networks are just too with local stakeholders in the various fields of work basis for the international claim. The organizational structure basically makes an attractive cost / benefit ratio and a flexible action possible. The room-in-room concept is appealing especially with respect to the Tonnenhalle, allows for the preservation of the industrial ambience of the halls and also takes into account besides the aesthetics and sustainability.
That both the program and the spectrum occupancy still show an openness that is seen as an opportunity, when the realization of the operation is done professionally. The inclusion of some existing, but also beyond this artistic impulses of content is recommended in the product's development. Is to clarify in what proportion should be to hire owner-occupation or productions and how the funding is to be ensured. The recognition of a non-profit company is also considered useful as the regular replacement of particular artistic line to prevent a permanent and unalterable operatorship. The criteria for appointment to the management functions, an interdisciplinary approach without unilateral priorities and the voice in contemporary discourse are properly recognized basic requirements.
Undeniably, the cathedral is a key component of the two halls. However, it should carefully assess and acoustic conflicts with the other users can be avoided as here. Also, the whole constitutes Architecture - should they be one investive one feasible - a thermal upgrading of both halls ahead, as the communication and recreational areas must have a corresponding quality.Since the concept so far has a relatively low area utilization is given in the further processing nor discretion.
The concept of 'Tonnenviertel' of the young Munich team 'Membran Urban' is not only managed cultural project, but allows - just because of its architectural and spatial compelling idea - the open and multidisciplinary process-development of the two halls. This is being considered in conjunction with the equally procedural urban development of the "creative labs" as essential."
